Logic and the fallacy of 1914

logic dictates that to prove a conclusion you must break it down into its individual parts and prove each individual element.. for instance, i can prove that 2+2=4.

i can also prove that 4 - 1 = 3 and that 3+10= 13. therefore, i can definitely prove my conclusion that that 2+2-1+10=13.. however, i would be unable to prove that 2+z-1+10=13.

because one of the elements, z-1, is unverifiable.

her fearless way in meeting the problems head on, not covering up, calling in expert help, investigating, apologizing, getting all adults away from the campass so the girls could talk openly about what happened.

Isn't it amazing that ONE 'WORLDLY' WOMAN can handle this in an intelligent, empathetic and responsible way that sends a powerful message to the whole world yet GOD'S ORGANISATION can't get it right?

having almost gotten over my jw ex-best friend telling me she could no longer be my friend, handing me back my spare keys, sending a note and present to my kids with not even a 'dear sam', shunning me in the park, etc, etc she now sacks her immigrant cleaner (who became her cleaner due to my recommendation a year ago) by text message.

cleaner phones her to check out what's going on and she tells her you can no longer clean for us as you work for sam and my husband wants us to have no connection whatever - you may tell her things about us and we don't want that.

charming, another kick in the stomach for me and a great witness to the cleaner (who ironically we found out a few months ago has a father who is a witness!).

It all feels quite raw still some days, 7 months later. But the recovery time is definitely getting quicker :-)

Funny thing is, I know if this friend did come back to me, having realised that she had been conned by one of the biggest shams there is and was sorry, I would forgive her everything......

The ironic thing is that when she told me she couldn't be my friend anymore, she said she would be the first one waiting at the end of my driveway to welcome me with open arms once I decided to return - all this disgusting, unchristian and unloving behaviour continues to confirm the decision to leave was the right one.

I also don't think I ever want a friend like that again.

Cleaner phones her to check out what's going on and she tells her YOU CAN NO LONGER CLEAN FOR US AS YOU WORK FOR SAM AND MY HUSBAND WANTS US TO HAVE NO CONNECTION WHATEVER - YOU MAY TELL HER THINGS ABOUT US AND WE DON'T WANT THAT.

The wonderful world of being a Jehovah's Witness. I'm so glad I'm out.

Alcohol and JW's

it seems like alcohol is a very grey area when it comes to jw's.

when i was a jw i knew many witnesses, particularly brothers, who seriously liked their drink and it appeared that when it came to elders and ministerial servants, the organisation seemed to turn a blind eye to alcohol abuse if those brothers were being faithful and especially if they were looked up to and liked in the congregation.

it reminds me of the mormons and the fact that utah is the prozac capital of the world - when something is not perceived as quite as bad a sin as another (even though all sins are equally bad in the bible/book or mormon), it becomes the one form of escape for people who have nowhere else to turn.

Borg similarities to Animal Farm? Absolutely!

i remember having to read george orwell's "animal farm" in 11th grade.

it was a mandatory assignment and after our readings there were discussions.

a few years later, my own mother whom had worked in a local psychiatric unit related to me that she felt the borganization closely resembled animal farm and also 1984. this was truly striking to me, but now more than ever it makes sense on so many levels.
